As I mentioned in my last post, my sister and I have been working on a project since last September. Knowing I was going through a tough time, she wanted to give her support. We decided the best thing would be to get together regularly and why not do something productive while we were in each other's company. Since I was needing a new comforter for my bed, we got the brainy idea to put together a knotted comforter. Had either of us ever done this before? Of course not! Now, sewing is not foreign to us and Lois is actually a very accomplished seamstress. I struggle with sewing, but have done some in my lifetime and even did a quilt back in my younger days but had help from my mother with the sewing. However, neither of us had actually ever started from scratch and put together a comforter to knot. Not to be deterred, we looked at an old one that I had, asked a couple of questions of my sister-in-law, Rhoda, googled how to knot a comforter, and figured we knew enough to make one.
We got together on Wednesday afternoons while Awstin was in kindergarten. We thought we might get it done by Christmas but that was too ambitious. After purchasing the material, we spent weeks cutting out the squares and weeks sewing the squares and strips together. Of course, there were Wednesdays that it didn't suit us to get together and so it ended up being the beginning of April when we put the last knot in the comforter. It took us three Wednesdays to knot it and Megan graciously left us put it in her basement and just let it there until we came back the following week. In all actuality, it really went together pretty well and we are pleased with the result.

It was really a fun project and it was nice to spend time each week with my sister. We touched on a lot of subjects as we labored and the time spent together was probably even nicer than ending up with a new comforter. Thanks Lois!
